You Could Say I’m a Dreamer

I’m not a happy camper. The Federal Government is off course in my estimation.

Here’s what would make me happy:

1) Free the Slaves: repealing the Income Tax and replacing it with nothing. Imagine: no April 15. US citizens lived without it for 100 years. My money is my business. No audits. No fear. And all the money from my business would go into the lives of the workers. It would also free up a lot of time otherwised used in record-keeping and hiring accountants. Tax accountants would be then freed up to pursue more productive lines of work.

2) Limited Government: reducing the size of the Federal Government by 75%. This could be accomplished quite easily by reducing our presence overseas. You might think this is a drastic reduction, but consider that the size of government has DOUBLED in the last twelve years.

3) Honest Banks: the complete abolition of the Federal Reserve and the associated fractional reserve banking system. Full reserve banking only– it’s honest and reliable.

4) Live within Our Means as a Country: a constitutional amendment requiring Congress to stay within budget: no printing money and no borrowing money. Tax if you need to, and let us feel the pain… if you dare.

5) Sound Money: competing currency. Competing currency should be allowed. Commodity-backed currency. Now, you are forced to use dollars, even if they are declining in value. Commodity money can be redeemed for something physical. It has a set value. The dollar used to be commodity money– it could be redeemed for gold.

Just thinking about it makes my heart swell with happiness. I don’t want to be some crank that’s always griping about stuff. However, all of these things are positive in nature.

The Roof

When the pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Basin it was a desert, a wasteland of sagebrush. Somehow they managed to build the remarkable Salt Lake Temple in spite of their dire poverty. They had a dream: to live free and build an earthly paradise.

About a hundred years after its completion, my wife an I were married there (you can see it in the background in the pic). My wife is a descendant of the Mormon pioneers via Wyoming.ww

Saturday evening my sweetheart and I headed up to Temple Square where we had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, on the top floor of a building right across the street. The drive was a good time for us to re-connect and have some time to talk, just us two. I like to get in the slow lane and take my time and she’s always harping on me to pick up the pace.

Sunday morning, the first of the new year, we started our new church block at 9am. It’s a good time slot. We got the kids up bright and early, got on our Sunday best and headed out. I spent most of the time in nursery with Willow, just giving Tamie a break. Willow is a mild-mannered girl and doesn’t fuss. If another child takes a toy from her she just moves on to the next thing. She kept pulling the bow out of her hair. She doesn’t like that thing.

I got a call last night saying that a counselor of the Bishop wanted to talk to both my wife and I. This generally means that the new calling is going to be time-intensive (ie the wife has to be on board). But as it turns out we were both called to teach cub scouts. My elder son will be in that class.

Blue Scribes

Here’s the Fateweavers’ answer to the Blue Scribes. In fact, the disc of Tzeentch that they’re on would be great for any sorceror to fly on.

Here’s what was used:
1x square plate from cities of death kit (sanctum imperialis)
4x eagle-head buttresses from sanctum
2x Warmaster High Elf Giant Eagles (three come in a blister)
2x Skaven Plague Monk bodies
1x pointing hand from Storm Vermin kit
1x hand with book from Plague Monk kit
3x various scrolls, skulls, pouches from Flagellants kit
1x giant book from Covenant of Menoth (by Privateer Press)
1x chaos book from Terminator Lord kit

The model also has a base that magnetized both round and square for 40K or Fantasy.

Sir Brickington of Brick-tonia

Tonight, my lovely wife and I got out and headed over to Sarah’s for a well-attended social event. There were about twenty people, a six-foot spread of nibbly food, and board games. I got to play Settlers of Catan (Seafarers?) for the first time. I just loved that game, though I had a surplus of bricks. In my kingdom people had to wipe their bums with bricks for lack of paper.

Any game where you get to have “wood for sheep” is a whimsical romp in my book.

My wife is charming and outgoing. She’s a delight to have in any social situation. Her talent is to be loved by all. It’s magic. She is genuine. Not an ounce of duplicity. One of those happy people that seem to be constantly smiling.

I can scarcely believe my good fortune to have her as my eternal companion.

Josephus and Adam were both there as well.

Wall of Ogre Meat

Today I played a game down at the studio against a local guy with an Ogre Kingdoms army. The game was a draw. It was tough. I took a Level four sorceress for my Lord choice, put her in a unit of Dark Riders (with Pearl of Infinite Bleakness so they wouldn’t panic and carry her off the battlefield). And a second level Sorceress.

So, on the first turn, one of the Butchers eats the “Hellheart” which causes enemy wizards (ie mine) to miscast on any double. And to use the Ogre miscast table. I figure “how bad can it be?” and proceed to roll the Supreme Sorceress’s first spell. Double fours. OK, on to the miscast table with a result of a “1”.

The Supreme Sorceress blows up in a hideous shower of steaming meat. Then each other wizard on the board takes d3 wounds no saves, exploding my other sorceress and the butcher who used the Hellheart. And putting three wounds collectively on the other Butchers.

It was brutal. That racked up 550 VPs in round one. All in all a tense game. BLACK GUARD!

Also, Rhinox Riders are awesome! Definitely run at least two in your list.

The Ogre book is the worst-written of all the WHF fantasy army lists. It’s pathetic. It’s narrow, it has confined builds, and anything good in the book is hamstrung with limitations (eg Ogres cause one impact hits but only if 6″ plus away on the charge). We have Ogre Kingdom House rules:

  • Ogre units (ie that have a minimum unit size of 3+) are Stubborn. Ogres are too hungry, ornery, or bone-headed to run away.
  • Ogres get an impact hit no matter the distance of the charge.
  • Ogres get d3 impact hits each if over 6″ away.

It’s a start. And makes Ogres a lot more fun to play and preserves/enhances the character of the book.

For someone who wants to play the underdog army Ogres are definitely for you. The way to go it to run three butchers, in my estimation. The ogres really need the buffs to stay in the fight.

Happy New Year

I looked up my resolutions from last year. Pathetic. I’d say 30% done. I ate healthier (comparatively). And I spent more time with my kids; a notable amount more. But I didn’t fast six times. More like… once. Pathetic.

I’ve decided I’m going to have completely different resolutions for 2010.

Listen more. I talk too much. I’m not aware of what is going on around me.

Eat healthier. Just work it up to the next level.

Let’s stick with that.

New Year’s Eve I just stayed at home. Four kids and a wife is plenty of a party for me. Tamara put on the usual spread of soups and delicacies. I fell asleep as always, but they woke me up just before midnight and we popped some poppers.

The next day I slept in, played Wii baseball with my older son, then off to work.
